This week we took to the streets and went hunting! With a pair of our comfiest walking shoes, an umbrella and Google Maps, we searched high and low for Bangalore’s best ethnic wear stores. And boy, did we paint the town red! (metaphorically speaking of course).
Our mission? To find stores that offer a wide range of Indian clothing, both stitched and unstitched fabric. So after a long day of bearing stormy clouds and frightful traffic, we finally checked off all the places on our list. The result? We compiled a Binks-approved list of some of the best stores in town that offer a wide range of Indian wear to choose from.
Mysore Saree Udyog – Commercial Street
The number one spot on our list had to go to Mysore Saree Udyog. As any old timer in Bangalore will tell you, this store has been around forever. The family business that started in 1932 has been going strong for nearly 9 decades. And their collection keeps growing. Located in the Central Commercial District of Bangalore, the store is a favourite for anyone looking to find exclusive material and designs.
While the outside of the store seems to merge with the background, on entering you’re immediately transported into a world of exquisite material sourced from all parts of the country. The staff at the store, know exactly what their customers want. The store is also associated with the best weavers and artisans for products from across the country to provide authentic, genuine and the best Indian craftsmanship under one roof. It is perfect for all types of sarees, lehengas, and fabric materials.
Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop – Leela Palace
Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop is a must-visit for everyone looking for a little something out of the box. Now, this gem of a store, located within Leela palace houses an exciting number of designer garments and outfits. Their collection fuses traditional Indian garments with a splash of modern colours, embroidery and design. You can find collections from popular brands like Papa Don’t Preach, Masaba, Tarun Tahiliani, Gaurav Gupta, Kalista, Seema Gujral and a whole lot more! Founded in 1956 Prasiddhi Silks is another store that is popular amongst the locals of Bangalore. They specialise in authentic silk sarees, churidar sets and wedding saris and have one of the finest collections of Mulberry, Madanpura, Georgette, Banarasi, Gadwal and Ikat Silk sarees. They have several outlets located all over Bangalore in areas like Double Road, MG Road, Bannerghatta, Commercial Street, Domlur and Marathahalli. It is perfect for all types of silk sarees.
